In jazz "Rhythm Changes" are a modified form of the chord progression in Gershwin's song "I Got Rhythm", which forms the basis of countless jazz compositions. These changes were later popularized by early bebop musicians like Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Charlie Christian, Dizzy Gillespie and many more. They became extremely common in the 40s and 50s, and are now a universal jazz standard. Many songs have been written over the "I Got Rhythm" or "Rhythm Changes” (a type of composition known as a contra fact) so it is important that every jazz guitarist master these changes.
